Life at Bayer Leverkusen hasn’t gotten off to the start Erik ten Hag would have wanted, as his first game in charge ends disastrously.
The former Manchester United manager was brought in to fill the void left with Xabi Alonso’s departure to Real Madrid.
However, that wasn’t the only gap to be filled with, two key players, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong both departed to join Liverpool.

Now, with the pre-season fully underway, ten Hag has had his first taste of leading the German side.
This evening, in their opening friendly of the summer, ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen took on Flamengo’s Under-20s side, with the Brazilian youth team winning 5-1.
By half-time it was already 4-0 to the young Brazilians, with Leverkusen’s new signing Axel Tape piking up a yellow card in the dying moment’s of the half.
Flamengo’s Lorran opened the scoring in the second minute before Matheus Goncalves grabbed a brace with his first in the tenth minute and the second coming into minute 40.

Finally for the half, Pedro Leao made it four as the half-time whistle blew.
The second half wasn’t quite as eventful, with Gusttavo grabbing Leverkusen’s fifth and final goal in the 54th minute before Montrell Culbreath pulled one back for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Now, the Dutch manager will be looking ahead to the 27th July, giving the club just over a week before their next fixture as they’re set to take on Bochum who have recently been relegated from the Bundesliga coming at the bottom of the table in the 2024/25 season.
