Time at Old Trafford for Erik ten Hag looks to be nearly up with the Dutchman’s team recording yet another loss in the Premier League, dropping them to 14th place.

Whilst the controversial penalty decision given by VAR ultimately gave The Hammers their winning goal, United were dire up front, failing to convert the incredible amount of opportunities they were creating, showing why they’re the third lowest scorers in the Premier League.

The 2-1 loss to West Ham came on the back of United’s 1-1 draw to Fenerbahce in the Europa League which recorded The Red Devils’ worst European record in 41 years, with only one win in eleven games and a winless streak of six matches.

With all this mounting up, ten Hag’s days at the club have to be numbered, with several top managers once more being looked at to replace the Dutchman.

United’s senior players question Erik Ten Hag

However, talkSPORT has now reported that it’s not just the United hierarchy having concerns about ten Hag now, with senior players questioning the Dutchman’s squad selections and rotation policy.

Earlier this season, Marcus Rashford was rested despite scoring three times in two games, affecting his momentum, with the forward even looking to move away from United due to the lack of a “stable project” under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Despite paying £50 million on Manuel Ugarte this summer in a pursuit which lasted the whole transfer window, the Uruguayan has only made seven appearances this season, with three coming off the bench, giving him a total of 348 minutes of playtime, or 50 minutes per game played.

Andre Onana has also spoken out confused as to why Noussair Mazraoui was played as a number 10 against Fenerbahce, also commenting on Casemiro being played out of position last season. This decision was all the more confusing, with Amad Diallo available for selection.

Ten Hag’s potential replacements

Over recent weeks, it looks as though former Barcelona man Xavi Hernandez is set to become United’s next manager, with Omar Berrada holding talks with the Spaniard to see if a deal can be agreed.

The United CEO even took a four-man team to the Spanish city Xavi calls home to discuss the situation with him.

However, he’s not the only man on the shortlist, with Brentford’s Thomas Frank still remaining a firm favourite at Old Trafford, whilst there are also links to Eddie Howe, with Dan Ashworth having worked successfully with him at Newcastle.

Whilst nothing has been confirmed as of yet, it’s hard to see how the United hierarchy would be able to stand by ten Hag for a third time now given the unsettled feelings around the club and the disappointing records being set.
