Erik ten Hag was full of praise for Scott McTominay after the Scottish international turned the tide in Manchester United’s recent clash against Brentford.
McTominay, having risen from the United academy, delivered a standout performance by netting two goals in stoppage time after being introduced from the bench.
This decisive play earned him the man-of-the-match accolade, even with his short time on the pitch.
Ten Hag, in his post-match remarks, highlighted McTominay’s deep connection with the club, stating, “He is Manchester United in his heart. He is playing for the badge and gives his life. When you are coming on and giving this to the team it tells a lot.”
Interestingly, this sentiment echoes that of former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. McTominay saw a significant amount of playtime under Solskjaer’s tenure.
Reflecting on his decision to retain the midfielder back in 2019 when there was chatter about a loan move to Derby, Solskjaer told The Athletic, “I made one selfish decision — to keep Scott McTominay when he could have gone on loan to Derby in 2019 to play more football. We kept him, we played him and after beating PSG away when he and Fred played well at the base of midfield, I think we did the right thing. Scott’s a Manchester United player through and through.”
