Erik ten Hag has been out of club management since his sacking by Manchester United in October.

A spell that, to fans, already feels like a distant memory.

The Dutchman’s Old Trafford exit came after a disastrous start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Former Red Devils striker Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped in as interim.

Shortly before Ruben Amorim was appointed on a permanent basis.

Since then, Ten Hag has been linked with numerous jobs across Europe’s top five leagues.

Clubs such as Roma, Juventus and RB Leipzig, as speculation swirled about his next move.

Now, fresh reports suggest the 55-year-old is being seriously considered for a new role in Germany.

Bayer Leverkusen “seriously consider” Erik ten Hag

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg on X, Ten Hag is on the shortlist of Bayer Leverkusen, who have gathered background information on him as they await to see Xabi Alonso’s decision.

Plettenberg reports that no concrete talks have taken place yet.

However, he confirms Ten Hag is under “serious consideration” – with the club still waiting Alonso to finalise his future.

It marks a potential new chapter for Ten Hag, who struggled to replicate his Ajax success in the Premier League.

Despite bringing in a host of former Eredivisie stars like Antony, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Andre Onana, he was regularly criticised for lacking tactical adaptability in England’s top flight.

Given the manner of his exit and the questions that remain over his methods, a return to the Premier League looks unlikely any time soon.
