Since leaving Manchester United in 2024, Erik ten Hag has been on a journey in the footballing world that has seen the manager at the centre of discussion in the footballing world on several occasions.

The Dutchman, who also manage Ajax between 2018 and 2022, joined Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in the earlier stages of this year following the departure of former manager Xabi Alonso.

However, ten Hag picked up just one win in his opening three games and even lost on his Bundesliga debut against Hoffenheim.

These results, and performances, led to the 55-year-old being sacked by Leverkusen at the start of this month with the sacking said to be for a number of reasons including the fact that he got along with no one at the club.

Despite that, it was still a shock when the news was announced as he’d only managed three competitive games for the German side.

Even with him being sacked, the former Manchester United boss will receive €5 million in severance.

Now, with Bayer Leverkusen under new management, Erik ten Hag has been approached with the prospect of joining one of his former clubs.

According to PSV Inside, ten Hag been approached by FC Twente to become their manager.

Erik ten Hag had previously played for the Dutch side between 1996 and 2022.

The publication also stated that Twente have approached Mark van Bommel and Rene Hake as potential candidates for the position, with Hake a former assistant manager at Old Trafford during Erik ten Hag’s reign.

Finally, PSV Inside report that the Dutch outfit are struggling to bring someone in as their new manager and are still looking for their next head coach.

With this being the case, the prospect of ten Hag returning to the club he used to play for can be said to be low.

If a club has already approached him, it’s likely that he turned the approach down otherwise he’d likely have taken it or more sources would have been reporting it also.

But, nothing can be said for sure.

Therefore, the upcoming days and weeks will be essential in telling us if the 55-year-old will join FC Twente as their new manager.
