Justin Cochrane has been added to England’s senior coaching team led by Thomas Tuchel ahead of the upcoming international fixtures.

The first-team coach will support the Three Lions while maintaining his full-time role with Brentford.

Cochrane is well-versed in England’s player development pathway.

He has worked as a head coach at youth levels from U15 to U17 between 2018 and 2021.

Official confirmation of the appointment was earlier posted on their club website.

During his time at the FA, he was also part of the travelling squad for the 2019 UEFA U21 European Championship.

He has extensive experience across various levels of football.

Having previously worked at Tottenham’s academy, AFC Wimbledon, and Manchester United.

Cochrane was Manchester United’s head of player development and coaching before leaving in June 2022 to join Brentford.

Thomas Tuchel has now finalised his backroom staff, which includes assistant Anthony Barry formerly of Chelsea.

As well as goalkeeping coach Henrique Hilario, and performance coach Nicolas Mayer.

Cochrane is regarded as a specialist in individual player development.

Considering he has worked with several members of England’s current senior squad.

New faces at England and Manchester United in major backroom moves

Meanwhile, Manchester United recently appointed Christopher Vivell as their full-time director of recruitment.

Vivell, who formerly of Chelsea, left the club after a brief stint before making the move to Old Trafford.

The hierarchy at United is of course, one of huge importance considering the direction the club aim to go in.

It is important that all areas are aligned, especially in recruitment.

Recruitment was an area of concern, pointed out recently by Raphael Varane in his interview with The Athletic.

However the Vivell appointment has come at a good time, considering the timing of Dan Ashworth’s dismissal.

If United are to be successful on the pitch, then these are areas that need to be set up consisting of the right people.
