Former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic is on United’s shortlist, according to The Sun.
The 41-year-old took Dortmund to the Champions League final last season before unexpectedly quitting.
He began his managerial career as a scout and assistant coach under Jurgen Klopp.
Terzic earned his coaching badges in England and served as an assistant for Slaven Bilic.
The German was at Besiktas from 2013 to 2015 and West Ham between 2015 and 2017 with Bilic.
He returned to Dortmund in 2018 as an assistant and became their interim manager after Lucien Favre was sacked in December 2020.
Terzic held this role until the end of the season and won the DFB Pokal in 2021.
Despite this, he was succeeded by Marco Rose on a permanent basis.
Instead of returning to his position as an assistant manager, Terzic became Dortmund’s technical director in 2021.

Rose departed Dortmund after a mutual agreement in 2022 and Terzic finally became their permanent manager.
Last season, he led Dortmund to a fifth place finish in the Bundesliga, earning direct Champions League qualification.
As a manager, he has an impressive win rate of 66% in 156 games.
United are aware that signing a top manager in the middle of the season is challenging, hence the expectation that Van Nistelrooy will assume the role of interim manager if Ten Hag is sacked.
However, if Edin Terzic is available next summer, his stellar record would make him an excellent candidate to take the reigns at United.
