Today, Manchester United officially announced the signing of Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno.
The 18 year-old was signed during last year’s winter transfer window although couldn’t join the club until this summer officially.
Unfortunately United haven’t been able to sign the youngster until after his 18th birthday, despite shining for Cerro Porteno with four goals from defence in 33 games.

Earlier, Leon commented on his move to Old Trafford stating that he wants to “bring a lot of joy to all the Manchester United fans and everyone who supports me on this journey.”
Leon’s immense talent and ability currently will also make him a valuable asset and an interesting player to watch if he does make appearances in the Premier League.
Basilio Leon, the father of Diego Leon, has commented on his son’s move to Manchester United stating the advice that he gave to the 18 year-old ahead of the 2025-26 season.
As reported by Sport Witness, Basilio said that he told Diego that “your goal is to be a starter, be positive, and mentally prepare to be a starter.”

This advice alongside the talented youngster’s own preparation and thoughts will aid him in the opening phase of his time at Manchester United.
Leon is already set for a competitive defensive line having to fight with Patrick Dorgu and Harry Amass for the left-wing-back role.
However, he’s determined to make his mark, having already commented: “Everyone thinks I’ll go out on loan, but I don’t have that mindset. I’m going to kill it in the preseason and within one or two games, I’ll already be playing with them.”
This shows that Leon is already arriving with an impressive drive and determination to make his mark at Old Trafford, a passion Ruben Amorim will no doubt be excited to utilise.
