Manchester United have travelled to Spain ahead of their Europa League clash with Athletic Club tonight.
However, in Ruben Amorim naming his travelling squad to take on the LaLiga side, a surprising name has emerged with Chido Obi joining the team despite being banned from the competition.
Obi technically isn’t eligible to play in the game as United never registered him as part of their Europa League squad with the intention of slowly building him up to join the first team.
Discussing the decision to leave Obi out of the Europa League registrations, Amorim commented: “In that moment, Ras (Hojlund) and Josh (Zirkzee) playing in same position, try to manage all the things, even expectation of the kids. We choose different players.”
He continued: “I am trying to manage everything, it is a big step for them. I am trying to think about every aspect. I am not thinking about what it will look like with their friends and the media.”
Now, The Express has revealed why Obi has travelled with the side despite not being able to play in the game.
