Manchester United are through to the Fourth Round of the FA Cup after beating Arsenal in a highly controversial match.

The game had it all, goals, a red card, brawls and the dreaded penalty shootout.

With the scores being drawn level at 1-1 just after Diogo Dalot’s sending off, a controversial penalty was awarded to Arsenal in the 72nd minute. Despite minimal contact from Harry Maguire, Martin Odegaard stepped up to take the spot kick, but no before the pitch descended into chaos.

Both teams were drawn in, with a mass scrap which included an apparent headbutt from Manuel Ugarte on Kai Havertz.

However, when the pitch settled, Altay Bayindir saved Martin Odegaard’s shot, pushing the match to extra-time.

With nothing between the two teams, United and Arsenal gathered to prepare for penalties.

Now, Bruno Fernandes has revealed what he said before The Red Devils headed into the penalty shoot-out.

Bruno Fernandes reveals his team talk for FA Cup victory

Speaking to Sky Sports, Fernandes addressed his role as captain and revealed how he spurred on his team to victory after extra time.

The midfielder revealed that much of his comments to the team revolved around Joshua Zirkzee being pick to be the fifth kick taker.

Zirkzee has had a hard spell at United so far, with his lowest point being substituted off after only 33 minutes against Newcastle.

Now Fernandes revealed that he urged the team to come together to redeem the Dutch striker.

Discussing his team talk, Fernandes commented: “It was a decision of the staff on the first five players to have a penalty, and Josh came last.”

He continued: “The only thing that came into my mind was to tell the players that ‘the script is done.’ Everything is done since that moment against Newcastle at home. That prepared us to give Josh his moment and his credit and his flowers.”
