Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park highlighted several key issues for the Red Devils, including their lackluster attacking play and struggles in the first half.

After a slow start, United found themselves trailing 2-0 at halftime, courtesy of goals from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Despite a strong second-half showing, which saw Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte secure the comeback, the result left much to be desired for the underperforming Manchester side.

Everton, on the other hand, have been in strong form under recently appointed David Moyes.

The club’s resurgence this season has been marked by an organized defense and dangerous attacking play.

Moyes, who is having a good season despite a lack of investment, has rejuvenated the team after a difficult period.

His tactical setup has allowed Everton to compete effectively against top teams, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed.

In comparison, United’s season has been marred by inconsistency.

Despite high expectations, their attacking struggles have been glaring, with a lack of clear strategy in the final third.

Ruben Amorim, who was brought in to improve United’s play, admitted after the game that his team was “soft” and did not show up in the first half.

Amorim was quick to praise Moyes’ work with Everton, stating, “He is doing a better job than me right now. We need to reflect on that.”

The VAR controversy played a major role in the post-match discussions, as Everton were left fuming after a stoppage-time penalty was overturned.

The original decision by referee Andrew Madley had awarded a penalty for a challenge on Ashley Young by Matthijs De Ligt and Harry Maguire, but after a review, the penalty was rescinded.

The Premier League released a statement clarifying that VAR only looked at Maguire’s potential trip on Young, ignoring De Ligt’s shirt-pull, which had also been a point of contention.

Following the final whistle, tensions boiled over between the players.

As the teams walked back onto the pitch for the second half, an altercation broke out between Fernandes and Everton legend Derek Mountfield, who had been inducted as an “Everton Giant” earlier that day.

Mountfield playfully mimed elbowing United players as they walked on, leading to an angry exchange between him and Fernandes.

The altercation was brief, but it added to the drama of a day already filled with controversy.

United versus Everton was certainly a game to remember and will have noise surrounding the results to come.
