Manchester United fans have been eager to see how their new-look attack would shape up under Ruben Amorim, especially following the high-profile arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

The pair were handed their first starts in the Premier League curtain-raiser at Old Trafford, with supporters hoping for a statement performance against rivals Arsenal.

Although United ultimately slipped to a 1-0 defeat after Riccardo Calafiori’s early strike, Amorim’s side showed plenty of attacking intent.

Cunha and Mbeumo were central to United’s best moments going forward, giving fans encouragement that goals will soon follow.

Now, reaction to Cunha’s debut has extended beyond England, with the Brazilian media hailing his performance despite the result.

Jornal da Paraiba wrote: “Matheus Cunha had an afternoon of mixed emotions in his Premier League debut for Manchester United this Sunday.

“The striker had a great match but ended up suffering a defeat.”

UOL Esporte praised his influence, noting: “Manchester United’s new number 10 was the standout performer, both among the Brazilians on the field and among the debutants.

“A fiery player, Cunha created dangerous chances for himself and his teammates.”

The Brazilian recorded 88% pass accuracy, whilst also recording the most dribbles from any player in the game (4), as per FotMob.

Globo highlighted his movement, while SBT Sports said: “Brazilian Matheus Cunha showed great determination and was by far the Red Devils’ most dangerous player.

“He sought out shots and provided intelligent assists, justifying the £62 million the club paid Wolverhampton Wanderers for his signing.”

With 22 shots in total for United and four of those coming from Cunha, he was unlucky not to mark his debut with a goal.

If he maintains this level, the Brazilian forward could quickly become a key figure in Amorim’s new era at Old Trafford.
