Matheus Cunha is entering his first full season in a Manchester United shirt since signing in the summer.
The winger, formerly of Wolverhampton Wanderers, has played in each of United’s three Premier League games thus far.
Furthermore, he has played 211 minutes out of the 270 available minutes to play so far.
These minutes are arguably invaluable in helping Cunha settle into life at Old Trafford.
However, in his third Premier League game against Burnley, he suffered an injury in the first half.
The injury saw the winger go straight down the tunnel.
However, considering the winger walked out of Old Trafford without crutches or a leg brace, the severity of the injury may not be as bad as expected.
Now, the Brazil national team have provided an official update on Cunha’s condition.
In a statement on their official X page, the team stated “Após conversa entre os departamentos médicos do Manchester United e da Seleção, o atacante Mateus Cunha foi desconvocado devido à lesão muscular sofrida na partida contra o Burnley, pela Premier League.”

In English, this translates to “After a conversation between the medical departments of Manchester United and the National Team, attacker Matheus Cunha was released from the call-up due to the muscle injury suffered in the match against Burnley, in the Premier League.”
Three key things can be taken from this statement.
The first of these is that Cunha’s injury is a muscle injury.
However, this still leaves the door open to it being a hamstring injury as rumoured earlier.
The second is that he was released from his duties when, initially, it looked like he had pulled out of the duty.
Finally, the two medical teams from the national team and United have been in contact.
With this news revealed, attention will turn to Matheus Cunha’s recovery.
However, the severity of the injury still appears to be unclear.
Therefore, only time will tell in the pursuit of Cunha featuring in the Manchester derby in two weeks time.
