Argentinian giants Boca Juniors are currently going through one of their worst patches in their club’s history, reaching 11 games without a win, a streak unheard of for the Buenos Aires club.
Boca Juniors featured in the newly revised set-up for the Club World Cup, setting up in Group C with Bayern Munich, Benfica and Auckland City.
Whilst the Argentinian side managed to hold Benfica to a 2-2 draw in their opening game, the club narrowly lost 2-1 to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in their second outing.
However, the real surprise came with Boca Juniors only managing a 1-1 draw to Auckland who’d been beaten 10-0 by Bayern and 6-0 by Benfica.
Unfortunately, Boca were knocked out of the tournament in the group stages, and now after three games are sat in 14th place out of 15 in Zona A of the Clausura Tournament, the top level of Argentinian football.
As such, frustrations at the club are boiling, with ESPN reporting that the club’s manager Miguel Angel Russo has now exiled for Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo from the squad.
It’s understood that the move to banish Marcos Rojo came after the defender was involved in a strong argument with Russo and his coaching staff.
The decision has left the 35-year-old, as well as Cristian Lema and Marcelo Saracchi training alone away from the squad, with a reversal of this being reported as being unlikely.
In this instance, the former Argentina international would need to see a termination agreement with Boca Juniors to allow him to join another team to find first-team football again.
It’s understood that Rojo has been looking to exit the club for some time, with the defender telling Boca Juniors during the Club World Cup that he wanted to wait for offers during the transfer window, however none came.
