Manchester United’s season went from bad to worse last night as the Red Devils were unexpectedly knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town.
So far in the Premier League, United fell at the first hurdle, losing 1-0 to Arsenal in the season opener at Old Trafford, before going to Fulham and drawing 1-1.
However, the club’s expectations to grab their first win against Grimsby was shot down as the League Two side came out fighting, grabbing two goals in the first half hour.
Whilst The Red Devils fought back, with second-half goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire, United were defeated in penalties for a shock upset seeing Grimsby Town advance to the next stage.
Now, Bayer Leverkusen have taken to X, ridiculing their manager Erik ten Hag’s former club, acknowledging the unexpected defeat.
Preparing for the UEFA Champions League draw, Leverkusen posted a picture of their label for the draw, with the caption “Just hoping we don’t get Grimsby…”
Bayer Leverkusen were successful in their opening game of the season, winning 4-0 over fourth-tier side Sonnenhof Großaspach in the First Round of the DFB-Pokal cup, with the differnce in class theoretically being similar to that of Manchester United and Grimsby.
