Barcelona’s financial pressures are as well-known as Manchester United’s, with the LaLiga champions routinely struggling to register signed stars due to the league’s rules.
The rules in question have strict guidelines regarding a club’s transfer budget and a salary limit, restricting how much can be spent on a new signing’s wages.
The limit in question is in relation to each club’s revenue, similar to the Profit and Sustainability Rules which govern Premier League sides.

Unfortunately for Barca however, they also have a reported £1.1 billion debt as reported by ESPN back in January 2025, which further complicates the matter, seeing their wage limit at £370 million for the season.
This debt, along with the current high wages, saw the Spanish side struggle to register new signings Dani Olmo and Pau Victor last year, with the registrations being voided in the winter.
In fact, the club were only able to register Olmo and Victor in the first case due to a loophole which saw Barca able t temporarily use up to 80% of an injured player’s salary on alternative players, which they managed to do thanks to the injury to Andres Christensen until 31st December 2024, when they were then deregistered.

Unfortunately now, Rashford’s registration seems to be in jeopardy already, with the club still operating with a hefty salary commitment.
Now, Guillem Balague has reported that to be able to register Rashford, the LaLiga champions are looking to prioritise some sales, as well as sort out some “financial engineering” with their VIP seats.
The club are currently looking to offer more VIP and hospitality packages to comply with the LaLiga regulations, a move which is also being replicated by INEOS at Old Trafford by creating a more expensive hospitality zone around the dugouts.
Rashford will no doubt be hoping that his new temporary club will be able to make some sales for him to be able to join his new teammates on the pitch as soon as possible.
Marcus Rashford will be presented as a FC Barcelona player on Wednesday afternoon. He got his dream move. Still under contact at United till 2028, he will be on loan with an option to buy for around €25/35m. Barcelona will pay all of his wages after he reduced them by 25%.
