Manchester United recently made two brilliant defensive signings in the winter transfer window, however, it’s now emerged that Barcelona tried to pip them to the post.
This January saw two new signings move to Old Trafford in the form of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.
Whilst Dorgu was signed as an immediate addition to the squad, stepping into the vacant left-wing-back role, Heaven was seen as more of a rotation player, building to be a future star.
Now, Academy Scoop has reported that United managed to beat Barcelona to the signing of 18-year-old centre back, Ayden Heaven.

Barcelona attempted last minute hi-jack of Ayden Heaven signing

Towards the close of the winter transfer window, United announced their signing of Arsenal youngster Ayden Heaven, following the summer signing of another young Gunners talent Chido Obi.
Now, it’s reported that Barcelona attempted a last-minute hi-jack of the deal, however to no avail.
However, Barcelona weren’t his only admirers, with Chelsea and Eintracht Frankfurt also interested.
The report has explained that it was a joint effort from key figures at United’s academy and in their senior recruitment team which sealed the deal to move him to Old Trafford over Camp Nou.
Whilst the season-ending injury to Lisandro Martinez has been a massive blow to United, it’s given scope for Heaven to step into the gap and assert himself as a senior star already, giving merit to his move from Arsenal.
Speaking about Heaven’s Premier League debut against his former club Arsenal, Ruben Amorim commented: “Ayden is so relaxed, sometimes he is too relaxed! I think we have a real player there.”
