Marcus Rashford only joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United recently, but has already made an instant impression in Catalonia.
The England forward arrived on the back of an excellent spell at Aston Villa last season, where he rediscovered his confidence and finishing touch.
That form has quickly carried over to his new surroundings, with Rashford already on the scoresheet for Barca.
He netted in a 5-0 friendly win over FC Daegu just over a week ago, giving Hansi Flick further encouragement ahead of the La Liga season.
However, with the champions’ first league fixture just days away, Rashford – along with several other summer signings – are still not eligible to play due to the club’s ongoing financial restrictions.
According to The Athletic’s report, Barcelona’s board has now agreed to take an emergency step to address the issue, with executives preparing to use their own personal wealth as part of a €7million (£6m) bank guarantee.
The move comes as the club continues to exceed its La Liga salary limit.
A limit which is calculated based on revenue, preventing the registration of new players.
This is not the first time such a measure has been taken – a similar guarantee was lodged in June 2023 for almost the same amount.
The expectation remains that all signings will be registered before the transfer window closes, including Rashford, Joan Garcia, Wojciech Szczesny, and Gerard Martin.
Barca are also waiting on approval for a €100m sale of future Camp Nou executive box proceeds.
A sale which La Liga must verify before it can impact the salary cap calculation.
Until those hurdles are cleared, the club faces a race against time to ensure Rashford’s impressive pre-season form can be carried into competitive action.
Rashford recently spoke about United’s ongoing struggles – although that won’t be on his mind now with an exciting season at Barcelona looming.
