Scott McTominay has become a central figure in Napoli’s stunning Serie A title charge.
His manager Antonio Conte believes that’s no coincidence.
After leaving Manchester United before the start of the season, the Scotland international has flourished in Italy under Conte’s guidance.
He has scored 11 league goals so far, including five in his last three appearances.
His sale to Napoli has since received plenty of criticism, notably from Jaap Stam.

Napoli currently sit three points clear at the top of the Serie A table, with four games remaining.
They travel to Lecce next in what could be a crucial step toward securing the Scudetto.
Conte addressed the media ahead of the clash and couldn’t hide his pride in McTominay’s evolution since his summer move from Old Trafford.
Antonio Conte states Scott McTominay ‘never had a primary role’
“McTominay is clearly much stronger now than when he arrived,” Conte said during his press conference, as quoted by TuttoNapoli.
“He also feels more complete and knowledgeable and he’s reaching a key stage in his career where he needs to decide his direction.
“He never had a primary role at Man United, while here we gave him one.
“McTominay’s worked hard and now he’s a complete player.
“His improvement has been shared by the whole team.
“Otherwise, it would be hard to explain how we’ve earned 74 points.”
McTominay’s form has been pivotal for Napoli’s surge toward what Conte described as an “unimaginable” achievement.
The former Juventus and Inter coach, who was born in Lecce and spent part of his sabbatical year there, urged his players and supporters to remain grounded.

“I’ve won a few Scudetti and we are trying to do something unimaginable, which would bring excitement to the environment,” he said.
“We haven’t done anything yet.
“I know football well and we need to remain focused.
“My message to the environment is: stay united.
“Whatever happens tomorrow, three matches will be left, and we start from a solid base.”
Conte also addressed his emotional ties to Lecce, saying:
“It’s always special, I was born there and became a man in Lecce. Nothing and nobody can change what I feel for Lecce and its people.”
McTominay, meanwhile, continues to thrive away from United, proving a crucial point – and perhaps offering a subtle rebuke to those who never fully trusted him in a United shirt.
