Andre Onana has been a pivotal part of Manchester United’s squad since his arrival at Old Trafford in the summer of 2023.
Since his arrival at the club, he has made 101 appearances and has acted as United’s starting goalkeeper under both Erik Ten Hag and Ruben Amorim.

However, earlier this week, it was revealed that Onana would not be taking part in the Red Devils’ 2025 pre-season tour due to a hamstring injury during training.
This means that, for the meantime, United’s second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayindir will step into Onana’s shoes and will be the number one option in goal during the Red Devils’ pre-season camp in the USA.

Initially, it looked like the Cameroon international would be out for a period of around six to eight weeks.
However, it has now been revealed by i news that Andre Onana has responded well to the early treatment administered for his injury and could be back playing for United within the next four weeks.
This news improves the goal-stopper’s chances of featuring in Manchester United’s opening Premier League game against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
But, whilst Andre Onana recovers from his injury, United will continue to look towards other goalkeeping options – according to the same report by i news.

One of these options could be John Victor who the Red Devils have been reported to be interested in and who United are preparing to submit a second bid for.
Ruben Amorim may also choose to look towards Argentine international Emiliano Martinez who currently plays for Aston Villa – United’s Premier League counterparts.
Manchester United have been linked with the World Cup winner during this summer’s transfer window and formally contacted the goal-stopper last month.
Either of these options could provide adequate depth in the goalkeeper position and each bring their own qualities to the role being the Manchester United number one entails.
Whatever happens, it is clear that the news of Onana’s quicker recovery will not change United’s thinking and they will look to bring depth and quality to the goalkeeper position ahead of next season.
