The end of the summer saw a major shift in Manchester United’s goalkeeper department, with Andre Onana heading out on loan to Trabzonspor in Turkey.

Despite being the club’s first-choice keeper since arriving from Inter Milan in 2023, Onana was dropped from his top spot at the start of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, seeing Altay Bayindir step up from being the back-up keeper to taking the lead.

The Cameroon international was, however, given a run out in the Carabao Cup draw against Grimsby Town in a game Onana will likely want to forget.

After the League Two side went up 2-0 in the first half hour due to Onana’s mistakes, United managed to bring it back to penalties; however, Grimsby ultimately came out victorious after 13 penalties each, making it the first time United have been eliminated by a fourth-tier side.

The result ultimately saw Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens move to Old Trafford on deadline day, with Onana’s loan to the Turkish Super Lig being organised a few days later.

As such, Andre Onana is set to remain in Turkey for the rest of the season; however, he has made a massive decision with regards to his family, which shows his thoughts on his Old Trafford future.

The Sun has revealed that despite moving 2110 miles for the remainder of the season, Onana’s family are remaining in Manchester.

The goalkeeper has decided to keep his children in school in England, with the family only set to visit him in Turkey “occasionally”.

It’s reported that Onana wants to keep his social circle in Turkey relatively small so he can purely concentrate on football to help him develop to head back to Old Trafford for next season.

Already the Cameroon international has got off to a strong start, being named the Man of the Match in his debut despite losing 1-0, with the keeper preventing 1.76 goals after being on the receiving end of 29 shots, making eight saves, including four diving saves.

As such, the shot-stopper will be hoping to keep his form up for the remainder of the season to help United get back on track when he returns.
