Andre Onana has praised Altay Bayindir after his heroic display helped Manchester United defeat Arsenal in the FA Cup.
Bayindir has struggled for game time at United, making just five appearances since joining 18 months ago.
The Turkish goalkeeper signed a five-year deal in the summer of 2023 but has largely been a backup to Onana.
His previous chances have been limited, and his performance in the 4-3 loss to Tottenham last month raised concerns.
However, Bayindir proved his worth against Arsenal by denying Martin Odegaard’s penalty during the match.
He then saved Kai Havertz’s spot-kick in the shootout, securing a dramatic win for United.

Many now view Bayindir as a genuine contender for the number one spot at Old Trafford.
Speaking about his teammate’s performance, Andre Onana was full of praise and delight.
“We all congratulated him because he did a fantastic job. We are all proud of him,” Onana said to club media.
“He’s been working hard every day for a year and a half, and now he gets his reward. He deserves it.”
“He invited us, by the way, to the restaurant [after the game] because he had such a nice performance.
“Hopefully, he’s going to invite us more, much more, because that means he will continue playing like this!”

Onana also went on to highlight the team’s collective effort during the match.
“I saw my guys giving everything. Fighting with 10 men for over 55 minutes was not easy.”
He described the victory as one of the most memorable games he has ever seen.
“Winning that way is just unbelievable,” added the Cameroonian goalkeeper.
Bayindir will be hoping to gain more starts in the FA Cup, now that United will continue to play in the competition.
The Europa League also poses as potential pathway for Bayindir to continue his form.
