2. Michael Carrick
After retiring from a distinguished playing career at Manchester United, Michael Carrick transitioned into coaching.
First becoming part of Jose Mourinho’s backroom staff alongside Kieran McKenna.
His influence grew when he became a crucial member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching team.
Carrick even briefly stepping in as interim manager in 2021 after Solskjaer’s departure.
Carrick then moved on to his first managerial role with Middlesbrough, where he has transformed the club into a competitive force in the Championship.
His possession-based style of football, combined with defensive solidity, led Boro to the semi-finals of the EFL Cup last season.
Despite narrowly missing out on playoff football, Carrick’s ability to make the most of a squad that lost key players like Chuba Akpom and Morgan Rogers has drawn admiration.
Currently, Middlesbrough sits 9th in the table, with Carrick pushing for a playoff charge.
Big clubs are now looking at Carrick, including Manchester United, who see Carrick as another option as interim coach if ten Hag is to be sacked.
