The Verdict: Were Manchester United right to sell Scott McTominay?
Overall, looking at all the factors involved in his impressive season, I think the club were right to sell Scott McTominay.
There’s no clear guarantee that the Scotland international would have played like he currently is had he stayed at Old Trafford, especial with the shift to Ruben Amorim’s playstyle.
His natural movement and ability on the pitch has gelled really with with the Napoli side, helping lift him even further than his impressive run last season.
What can be said though is that United were wrong to sell him off so cheap.
Even an extra £10 million for the midfielder would have been extremely reasonable considering he’d just experienced his career best season, with TransferMarkt now valuing the 28-year-old at £34 million.
Overall, like several former United stars, McTominay is thriving away from The Red Devils, however, the real issue at hand is how to make them thrive at Old Trafford, rather than after they leave.
