Manchester United’s financial struggles

It’s also worth noting that an aspect of his transfer was also regarding the financial element with McTominay giving the club a huge financial boost.

As a product of the United academy, McTominay was in minority at the club as being able to be considered as “pure profit” under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), with these sales supporting further against the club’s financial strains.

As such, his sale will have been financially more beneficial that Christian Eriksen for example, who doesn’t have the “pure profit” status.

However, given how he’s playing for Napoli, a transfer of £25 million has been an absolute bargain for the player who’s transforming the club’s midfield.
