Manchester United vs Napoli

Then comes the sides themselves.

Napoli are currently leading Serie A, showing the chemistry of the squad and general togetherness of the talent in Antonio Conte’s side.

This season, Napoli have scored 64 goals and conceded 31 in 37 games, with 24 wins, eight draws and only four loses.

United are sitting in 14th in the Premier League, and whilst the club has some truly impressive talents, something at the club clearly isn’t working yet.

In comparison, United have scored 101 goals and conceded 88 goals in 53 matches, with 21 wins, 14 draws and 18 loses, a significantly higher number of games played than United

When looking at their comparable averages, Napoli are working at 1.7 goals per game, with 0.8 goals conceded per game, whilst United currently have a 1.9 goals per game average with 1.7 goals conceded per game, showing a huge difference in the clubs defending.

Obviously it’s worth noting with this that Conte has been the established manager for the whole season whilst United replaced Erik ten Hag a quarter of the way through the club’s campaign.

Ruben Amorim took charge back in November 2024 leading with a very different playstyle to Erik ten Hag, a playstyle he is unwavering from, which differs to how Antonio Conte wants his team to play.

As such it’s a fair assumption that McTominay may not have thrived under Amorim’s tactics in the same way he is under Conte, either having to play more defensive or more attacking as a default rather than the more free reign he has in the middle.
