Manchester United are on the brink of signing Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha with the Brazilian expected to agree personal terms for a move imminently.
Fabrizio Romano has explained that the relationship between United and Cunha is “excellent” with his “here we go” ready to be unleashed.
However, United still need to trigger the £62.5 million release clause, which they reportedly can do without sales, and are expected to do before the transfer window opens in June.
So with Cunha looking likely to be on his way, how could he be used under Ruben Amorim?

Matheus Cunha as a No.10
It’s been widely reported now that United are looking to Cunha as a No.10 to sit behind the striker as a second striker and support to the front man.
This season has seen Cunha do just that for Wolverhampton Wanderers, primarily being a secondary striker or attacking midfield.
In 20 matches in this role, the Brazilian has scored 10 goals with four assists, contributing to his rank as ninth in this season’s Premier League top goal scorers.
Playing in this role, Cunha’s goals contribute to 21% of Wolves’ 48 league goals, with his assists taking his percentage of league goals contributed to up to 29%.
As a secondary striker, Cunha scored a brace against Fulham, and individual goals against the likes of Chelsea, Brighton, Liverpool and Aston Villa, showing he can deliver against higher-performing clubs.

Ruben Amorim’s potential attacking three with Matheus Cunha
With Cunha moving to Old Trafford he provides a fantastic support to the solo striker up top, potentially pairing up with Joshua Zirkzee or Bruno Fernandes behind the striker.
Either partnership could support the striker, looking likely to be Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, or Zirkzee himself, with the Dutch striker finding his feet under Amorim, and Fernandes routinely delivering wherever he plays on the pitch.
However, Cunha also provides a versatility, being able to play as a striker himself or on the wings, a trait highly sought after by Amorim.
Over the last two years United have experienced significant injury issues, so having further depth and cover options in the squad can only be a bonus.
From the centre forward position, Cunha’s grabbed two goals in five games, with goals against Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth.
With Cunha being able to deliver in either role, he brings reliability to the attacking three, which alongside Fernandes and potentially Delap could completely remodel United’s attacking play.
