Systematic Unfamiliarity
United have changed their shape; it is a slight tweak, going from a 4-2-3-1 to a 4-1-4-1/4-3-3.
Even with it being only a small change, it creates different spaces and the little intricacies in build up will be different. This effects both in possession and out of possession.
With Mount coming in, we are looking to play with 2 advanced 8s, with one of the full backs inverting to create a box in midfield. An issue that it has created is that Bruno is playing slightly deeper alongside Mount in order to try and hold the ball in dangerous areas. He has had a bigger gap between him and the striker, which has slightly negated his creativity.
A possible fix for this, could be to go back to the system of last season, with the staggered, 6, 8 and 10. This will help stop Casemiro being over exposed.
With Mount being out injured, this should allow United to try the Casemiro and Eriksen pivot again.
