2. Toni Kroos
Another near-miss for Manchester United came in 2013 under David Moyes, who had just taken over from Sir Alex Ferguson.
Moyes revealed in a 2018 interview that Toni Kroos had agreed to join United from Bayern Munich.
Moyes had met with Kroos and his wife, and the deal was all but finalized.
However, Kroos decided to remain at Bayern for another season before eventually moving to Real Madrid in 2014.
Kroos has since become one of the most decorated midfielders in modern football, winning four Champions League titles and multiple domestic league titles with Real Madrid.
His vision, passing range, and composure on the ball have made him an essential part of one of the greatest midfield trios in football, alongside Luka Modric and Casemiro.
United, on the other hand, struggled to find a midfielder of Kroos’ calibre for years, with Moyes’ tenure falling apart not long after missing out on Kroos.
The news means that this is one of the biggest failed Manchester United transfers of all time.
