If Anthony Martial stays at United beyond this year, we’ll be amazed.
Don’t get us wrong.
Martial is insanely talented and skilful. He could, and probably should, have been a United legend.
Scoring against Liverpool on your debut (and what a goal it was) is the stuff of dreams.
But Martial just hasn’t hit the levels that were expected.
Don’t forget, this is a player with a clause in his contract to pay Monaco more money if he wins a Balon D’Or. That’s how highly rated he was.
The France international hasn’t completed a full 90 minutes for United was in September 2021.
For United to get back to their peak, they at least need a striker who can play 90 minutes on a regular basis and Martial just can’t do it.
We don’t subscribe to the theory that Martial has been a flop. He’s been a good player who has scored a number of goals, some very important ones too, and has created a number of memories for the club.
But with 6 months left on his contract, now would be a good time for United to get a fee for the player.
Martial may even flourish in a league less intense as he’ll be able to showcase his undoubted skill elsewhere.
