3 players Manchester United should keep and 3 players they should sell in the January transfer window

3 players that we think should stay at the club as well as 3 players for whom the time has come to put an end to their United career.

Keep

It’s quite clear that the United hierarchy want to reduce the wages that Raphael Varane is on.

And that’s perfectly understandable.

He’s one of the club’s top earners, is over the age of 30 and does have a worrying injury record. Waiting until the end of the season and seeing if you can save some money to invest elsewhere in some younger talent.

So far, so good.

But the issue is that many reports have linked Varane with a permanent transfer from the club. At one point, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti even commented on reported interest for the player from the Spanish giants.

If we were in charge of the club, we would keep Varane this January.

Harry Maguire has started the season strong, Lisandro Martinez is returning and Jonny Evans is an able backup. But a club trying to get a place in Europe needs strength in depth in key areas.

Having a multi-time UEFA Champions League and FIFA World Cup winner in your ranks and getting rid of him just doesn’t make sense.

It might be tempting to cash in now while he’s under contract rather than let him leave in the summer on a free. But we recommend keeping him for this window at least.
