Peter Beardsley
Yes – that’s right – Peter Beardsley.
Peter Beardsley was one of the most gifted English forwards of his generation and is renowned for his contributions to several major English clubs throughout his career including Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle United.
While his stints at Manchester clubs were relatively brief, they remain fascinating chapters in his footballing journey.
In 1982, Beardsley joined Manchester United from Vancouver Whitecaps, an NASL team in Canada.
However, his stay at Old Trafford was limited, with Beardsley making only one appearance in a League Cup game for the club before returning back to Vancouver Whitecaps.
After returning to England and making a much bigger impact with the likes of Newcastle United, Liverpool and Everton, Beardsley found himself back in the city of Manchester in 1998 when he joined City in the First Division on loan from English Premier League side Bolton Wanderers.
Beardsley’s time with City was short but eventful, as he showcased his attacking prowess and creative skills as he made six appearances for the side. By making that move, he became the only player to have played for both top-flight teams in Liverpool and Manchester.
Ultimately, Beardsley will be best remembered for his time at Newcastle United, where he achieved legendary status, but his brief spells at both Manchester clubs highlight the vast and varied career of this footballing great.
