Jadon Sancho
Let’s start with the most recent example of this.
Jadon Sancho had long been earmarked as one of England’s brightest talents to emerge in recent years as he became known for his impressive skills and creativity on the football pitch.
Sancho joined the youth academy at Manchester City from Watford in 2015 and soon caught the attention of the coaching staff there, who were impressed by the England youth international.
Despite this, Sancho saw that the path to first-team football was congested at the Etihad Stadium and made the bold move to leave England and sign with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga just two years later. He left England without having played a game for Pep Guardiola’s side and many were questioning whether the youngster had made the right decision.
His decision to leave City paid off, as he thrived in Germany, earning a reputation as one of Europe’s best young players.
Sancho’s performances in Dortmund’s iconic yellow jersey soon attracted the attention of Manchester United.
After two years of speculation, Sancho made a highly anticipated return to Manchester in 2019, but this time he was donning the red jersey of United.
His transfer to Old Trafford marked a remarkable journey that began with City and took him to Germany before returning to Manchester as a United star.
With Sancho currently frozen out of the first team at United, it’ll be interesting to see whether he will play in another Manchester derby again.
