Terry Cooke
Terry Cooke was an English midfielder who is one of the lesser-known names to have experienced the Manchester derby from both sides.
His career, due to not being as illustrious as some others on this list, is another that many will not recall.
Cooke began his professional career at Manchester United, where he came through the youth ranks and scored the winning penalty in the 1995 Youth Cup final.
He made his first-team debut in 1995 where he provided an assist for Ryan Giggs against Bolton Wanderers and many felt that he had a bright future in the game.
However, the rise of a certain David Beckham meant first team opportunities were limited and he joined Manchester City permanently after joining them from United initially on loan.
After playing a role in City’s promotion from the Second to First Division, Cooke lost his place in the side when they came back to the English Premier League.
The rivalry between Manchester United and Manchester City has produced countless memorable moments and iconic players over the years.
While the footballing world often focuses on the stars and legends of each club, it’s important to recognise the lesser known journeys of other players who have worn both the red and blue jerseys in Manchester.
