Over the summer reports came out once more that Manchester United were looking once more at Frenkie de Jong, however, new reports have released that he wasn’t the only Barcelona midfielder The Red Devils’ enquired about.
United’s links with de Jong are long-standing after spending the summer of 2022 trying to sign the Dutch star. However, this was a move that didn’t pan out, ending in a last-minute bid for Casemiro, with the Brazilian moving to Old Trafford.

Despite missing out on de Jong, United haven’t taken him off their radar, still looking into the star this summer, however, the 27-year-old had no interest in a move.
Speaking about his love for Barcelona, de Jong commented: “Staying at Barca? Yes, I’m very happy in Barcelona with my family, for sure.”
He continued: “[Barcelona boss] Hansi Flick wants me to be key. I talked to him. It was good.”

Unfortunately for United, this was the same feeling for another one of their Barcelona targets, Fermin Lopez.
The 21-year-old had an amazing season last year, with 11 goals and an assist in 43 games for Barca, ending in call-ups to both Euro 2024 and the Paris Olympics, having won both tournaments. Whilst Lopez only made one appearance at the European Championships, he was vital to their gold medal campaign in Paris with six goals and two assists in six games.
New reports from Football Espana have claimed that both Manchester United and Tottenham were interested in the centre midfielder, however, neither Lopez nor Barcelona were interested in a move. The LaLiga side were not interested in any discussion around a deal for their star midfielder, with the club looking to enter contract renewal discussions with the star.
It’s also understood that Lopez was equally uninterested, wanting to stay with the Spanish side.
