The England international is set to sign a new contract with the club with improved performance based pay rises, showing the importance that United hold him with. As a result, Erik ten Hag wants to ensure he gets the right fit alongside Mainoo with whoever they sign.

It’s believed that the clubs are now looking at a loan deal with obligation to buy at the end, but we are yet to see anything concrete.

However, United have made the most of a recent meeting in order to bid on another of their long-term targets.

United’s use meeting to sign star midfielder

Yesterday, a group of United officials visited Atalanta’s headquarters in Zingonia in order to work on some remaining paperwork from the transfer of Rasmus Hojlund last summer.

Throughout the transfer, the two clubs worked well together, fostering an excellent relationship between the Premier League and Serie A sides. So, with a strong bond, United made the most of their visit and enquired about star midfielder, Ederson.

New reports from Alfredo Pedulla have announced that not only did the Red Devils enquire about the Brazilian, but they also submitted an official bid of £42.4 million (€50 million).

Ultimately Atalanta have rejected the offer, not wanting to sell their midfielder in the final week of the transfer window. With the Italian club trying to sell Teun Koopmeiners, they feel that losing Ederson as well would be too much of a hit to their squad.
