Manchester United have a number of young players to give United fans heaps of excitement for the future. Players like Harry Amass and Toby Collyer are only just getting started yet show amazing potential.

Both of these United academy graduates have had a tremendous pre-season, with both expected to follow in the footsteps of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho in rising to the first squad in no time at all.

It was expected that with such impressive performances on the USA pre-season tour, that Amass and Collyer would feature in United’s Community Shield match against rivals Manchester City. Whilst Collyer came on in the 59th minute to replace Mainoo, Amass was not included in Erik ten Hag’s side to travel to Wembley.

With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia out injured, Lisandro Martinez was used as a left-back in the Community Shield match up. However, Amass provides an option for ten Hag to use to cover this fullback position.

Whilst Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are able to cover this position as well, Amass is a natural left-back as opposed to being a right-back.

However, ten Hag is keen to be cautious with Amass’ development and not push him before he’s ready.

On Monday, Harry Amass was photographed at Carrington, training with the Manchester United first team squad.

This has come as a surprise with the 17-year-old not included in the line-up to take on Fulham in the first game of the Premier League either.

Erik ten Hag is keen to make sure the time is right when using his young players, in order to avoid hindering their development by pushing them to soon.

Despite missing the Community Shield game and Premier League opener, Amass’ inclusion in the first team training shows how well regarded his is at United.

However, Amass’ absence from Old Trafford on Friday night’s game vs Fulham can be explained, with the left-back playing an Under-21s game against Arsenal.

The game will have been disappointing for the 17-year-old, with United losing 4-2 with a very poor team performance. However, a silver lining for Amass was the assist he registered, crossing in to Ethan Wheatley who converted the link up into a goal.
