Manchester United have received a massive boost with one of their strike targets after his valuation has dropped by a massive £20 million.
Erik ten Hag is desperate for another striker to come into the squad after Rasmus Hojlund picked up an injury this season. Being taken off in their first pre-season tour match against Arsenal, Hojlund has been ruled out until later on in September.
With a lengthy time away from the pitch, this leaves new signing Joshua Zirkzee as United’s only senior striker. Zirkzee was signed to take the pressure off of Hojlund as the club’s only striker, but now is feeling that same pressure himself.
Ten Hag has commented on the situation, highlighted three of his existing players could step up if needed. Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes have all played up top when needed previously, so could do the same again.
However, it goes without saying that getting another out and out striker would be the best option for the club.
Now, United have received a boost in this sense, with one of their top targets experiencing a major price drop.
Ivan Toney experiences major price drop
United have been looking at Brentford’s Ivan Toney for some time now, and with recent developments, may make a move for the striker.
Reports from Football Insider as reported by Fooball365 claim that United are “ready to bid” to capitalise on the opportunity of Toney’s asking price taking a huge hit.
Brentford have previously been holding out for around £70 million for their key striker. However, the report claims that they are now happy with bids around the £50 million mark, giving a massive drop of £20 million.
Toney is now entering the final year of his contract and so this marks the last chance Brentford have to cash in on the England international. This move from The Bees is a massive hint that they don’t believe he’ll be extending his contract so is more likely to leave on a free transfer.
United are desperate for a proven striker in the Premier League to add to their ranks and Toney is definitely that with 36 goals and 11 assists in 83 Premier League games for Brentford.
