Manchester United are on a drive to bring the club back to the top of European football, transforming their starting XI and improving their youth academy.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made a point of wanting Old Trafford to be the home of the best development system for young talent in Europe.

Recently the Red Devils have been linked to the young Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier as an exciting talent to develop further, whilst also providing competition to Rasmus Hojlund and new signing Joshua Zirkzee.

Now, United may be close to missing out on another young target, with Championship side Hull City close to signing the talented defensive midfielder.

Hull City to sign United midfield target

Hull are edging closer signing one of their priority targets this summer, with the new Championship season kicking off next week.

Hull daily Mail have reported that the Championship side are looking to sign Oscar Zambrano from Ecuadorian side LDU Quito.

The defensive midfielder has delivered a number of strong performances since breaking into the first squad two years ago. Since joining the senior squad, the 20-year-old has made an impressive 64 appearances across all competitions, helping the side win the Copa Sudamericana and the LigaPro Serie A Segunda Etapa (Ecuadorian league title).

Zambrano caught the eye of United as well as a number of other English clubs, with Brighton and Hove Albion, Bournemouth and Luton Town all interested in the star.

The star is being valued at just over £4 million by the Ecuadorian club, with the star being likened to Moises Caicedo who United also missed out on in recent years.

Although Hull are happy to pay the transfer fee, negotiations have stalled around a payment clause in Zambrano’s existing contract which would see youngster get 15% of any transfer agreement.

Whilst Hull are pursuing this deal, it doesn’t seem likely to affect United too much, with the midfielder low down on United’s target shortlist.
