Alessandro Nesta has officially signed on as the manager of Serie A side AC Monza making his managerial debut in the top tier of Italian football.
Having spent six years in Serie B managing Perugia, Frosinone and Reggiana, the ex-Italy international is now heading up the mid-table side.
Nesta replaces Raffaele Palladino who’s recently moved to take the managerial role at recent Europa League winning side Fiorentina.
Having only been in the role two weeks, the Lazio legend has already made his first signing, coming from the Manchester United academy.
Omari Forson has been a longstanding member of the United youth academy having joined in 2019 and has risen through the ranks to be promoted to the senior squad this January, however was not included in the retained list at the end of the season.
As a result, Monza have managed to snap the 19-year-old up as a free transfer, bringing the right-winger to Italy.
Reports from Italian outlet Football Italia claim that Nesta see’s massive potential in the ex-Red Devil.
Monza had signed the free agent only a matter of days after Nesta arrived at the club.
But why is Nesta so excited to have signed the rejected United man?
Well, while at the United academy, Forson showed exceptional promise, making 85 appearances across all levels, with 27 goals and 19 assists before he joined Erik ten Hag’s senior squad.
Once he joined ten Hag’s side, Forson only made a handful of appearances, totalling 88 minutes across seven games. However he did manage to pull of a vital assist to Kobbie Mainoo against Wolverhampton Wanders in the seventh minute of extra time securing a 4-3 victory for United.
Forson’s versatility has been one of his most exciting traits, with the Englishman consistently playing comfortably on both wings as well as in attacking midfield.
Nesta commented on the United graduate with great admiration saying, “He’s a talented lad.
“Very shy but with big potential.”
“He will slowly loosen up,” he continued.
“He is left-footed, but he plays on the right. He can play as a winger or attacking midfielder.”
It seems that the Italian legend is hoping to rely on Forson’s versatility and composure to help the team be competitive this year and secure survival in the upcoming Serie A campaign.
