It looks like Leny Yoro is soon to become a Manchester United player.
With David Ornstein confirming that the France defender is heading to England to finalise his transfer to the club, United fans are delighted at having beaten the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid to his signing.
Ever since the news that Raphael Varane will be leaving the club, fans have been wondering how the club will be replacing him.
It now seems that we have an answer.
However, for a significant portion of the summer, we’ve been hearing that United want to buy a number of central defenders.
So United fans are wondering whether Yoro is the first of many defensive signings coming in.
With question marks over the future of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof still, there could potentially be space in the United ranks for another arrival.
Jarrad Brainthwaite is someone who has long been linked to Old Trafford. However, with Everton having sold other players, it seems like the England defender will be staying at Goodison Park.
Another defender who has been linked with United is Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt.
The former Ajax captain is seemingly up for sale, with Bayern looking to bring in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah as a replacement.
However, new details have emerged from Germany on United’s interest in signing de Ligt.
According to Florian Plettenberg, United were not willing to pay the asking price that Bayern wanted for the Netherlands international.
Bayern has apparently set an asking price of €50m as well as additional add-ons for the player. Because of that, there has been no offer from United for de Ligt.
Plettenberg states that the clubs priority signing was always Leny Yoro due to the amount asked for de Ligt.
It seems that the new United hierarchy, ran by INEOS, Omar Berrada and Dan Ashworth, are showing that they’re willing to walk away from deals if they don’t feel it represents value for money.
This is a clear change in direction from what the previous regime were known for, having overspent on a number of players because they wanted them so badly. And MUFC fans will be pleased to see their club moving in this new direction.
