Manchester United’s goalkeeping department has experienced plenty of change in recent seasons, from the high-profile arrival and now departure of Andre Onana to the development of academy talents pushing for senior recognition.

The Red Devils have also seen a string of former youth stoppers build respectable careers elsewhere, proving the club’s long-standing tradition of producing quality keepers.

In recent weeks United’s own start to the Premier League campaign has been scrutinised after a poor run of results, yet the club’s influence continues to be felt across British football through their academy graduates.

This latest move involving a former United prospect underlines how those who learned their craft at Carrington continue to make their mark, even years after leaving Old Trafford.

Former United goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara has completed a deal with Dundee Football Club until the end of the season, as announced by the club on their website.

The 29-year-old, capped twice by the Republic of Ireland, arrives after leaving Kilmarnock earlier this year and will wear the number 13 shirt.

Kieran O’Hara spent his formative years at Manchester United’s famed academy, where he honed his skills alongside several current Premier League players.

During his time at Old Trafford, he gained valuable senior experience through loan spells at Stockport County, Morecambe, Macclesfield Town and Burton Albion.

After departing United permanently, O’Hara joined Burton before spells at Fleetwood Town and Colchester United.

Speaking after signing for Dundee, O’Hara said he was thrilled to finally get the deal done after weeks of talks.

“I didn’t want to rush into anything, and I like to think that I did that,” he explained.

“I spoke with the Gaffer and Glen the goalie coach, and players who have played here in the past, and they all spoke highly of the club.”

The Irish international is no stranger to Dens Park, having played there with Kilmarnock, and is eager to impress.

“It’s a good stadium with good fans, so I’m really looking forward to it,” he added.

O’Hara’s journey from Manchester United’s youth ranks to a seasoned professional in Scotland is another example of how the Red Devils’ academy continues to influence the wider football landscape.
