Manchester United are preparing to make moves for a new midfielder over the coming transfer windows as their next priority for Ruben Amorim’s squad rebuild.
This summer saw a complete overhaul of United’s attack, as Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko joined the squad, with Antony, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garancho and Rasmus Hojlund departing Old Trafford, albeit some of them only on loan.
The Red Devils also saw a change in their goalkeeping department, with Senne Lammens joining from Royal Antwerp, leading to Andre Onana heading to Turkey on loan with Trabzonspor.
Now, it’s understood that the next stage is the midfield. United have already lost Christian Eriksen at the end of his contract, with veteran midfielder Casemiro also coming to the end of his contract. Adding to the concerns is Bruno Fernandes reportedly being open to a move from Old Trafford after teh 2026 World Cup if it feels right for all involved, and Kobbie Mainoo’s recent desire to leave the squad on loan to get more game time.
As such, United are in need of adding to their squad depth, with only Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer as their other long-term midfield options, with the latter on loan with West Bromwich Albion.
Towards the end of the summer transfer window, United were looking at players like Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba as a potential signing, as well as having a long-term interest in Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
However, new reports from Ukraine have suggested that The Red Devils are also looking at Brentford’s Yegor Yarmolyuk.
The central midfielder joined The Bees back in 2022 at the age of 18, and has come through the reserve squad to be a routine starter in Keith Andrews’ side.
Now, Ukrainian journalist Volodymyr Zverov has explained on ProFutbol Digital’s YouTube, as quoted by dynamo.kiev.ua, that United hold a “strong interest” in the 21-year-old.
Zverov explained: “I know about the very serious interest of Manchester United in the Ukrainian football player.”
He continued: “United needs to definitely fix the problems in the defensive zone. And Brentford is not the club that will do everything in its power to keep Yarmolyuk, and they are ready to consider offers for the midfielder from £30 million. United can be called a serious contender for Yarmolyuk,”
This is the first time we’ve seen Manchester United be linked to the Ukraine international, with Yegor Yarmolyuk having recently been called up to the national team for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against France and Azerbaijan.
