Manchester United are once more at a point of real concern as after four games, The Red Devils have only secured four points, seeing them sit in 14th in the Premier League.
Despite sitting above Manchester City in the table before deadline day, The Citizens’ 3-0 win catapulted them above their fierce rivals with Ruben Amorim’s side once more being punished for their mistakes.
This marks the club’s worst start to a league in 33 years, which is only made worse by their embarrassing elimination from the Carabao Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town, making it the first time a fourth-tier side have knocked them out of a cup.
Now, it’s understandable that pressure and scrutiny are mounting around Amorim, with the Portuguese manager refusing to back down from his 3-4-3 playstyle which the United players are still struggling to adapt to, 10 months on from his initial appointment.
Ruben Amorim has even gone so far as to say that he believes the problem is the players’ mindset and not the playstyle he’s implementing, with the manager also saying that if United want to change style they’ll have to change manager.
Recently been revealed that United are still looking to back Amorim, seeing him as a long-term solution for their problems, needing to be given time to help the club rebuild.
However, new reports from The Mirror suggest this may not be the case for much longer.
David McDonnell explains in his report that Ruben Amorim three games to save his job, with a contingency shortlist of potential replacements having already been developed.
It’s understood that United’s potential replacements for Amorim are Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, former England head coach Gareth Southgate, Fulham’s Marco Silva, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, and former Tottenham Hotspur and current USA head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Whilst he does highlight that the United hierarchy are still giving Amorim their full backing, with no plans of replacing him, they are looking at assessing the situation during the October international break, after they play Chelsea, Brentford and Sunderland.
