After a devastating 3-0 loss to Manchester City in Derby Day, Manchester United are off to their worst Premier League start in 33 years, having only gathered four points in four games.

Add to this their disastrous Carabao Cup elimination by Grimsby Town, making it the first time a fourth-tier club has knocked them out of a tournament, and Manchester United are clearly in a really bad position.

Despite the club’s performances, Manchester United’s hierarchy are reportedly still looking to back Amorim, seeing him as a long-term solution to their post-Sir Alex Ferguson slump, and needs to give the Portuguese manager time to rebuild the club.

However, The Daily Mail has now reported that the outlook of the squad isn’t as favourable as several of his players are losing faith in his system.

Ruben Amorim has been determined to stand by his 3-4-3 system that transformed Sporting CP, helping them win five trophies in four and a half years.

Unfortunately for United, the system isn’t having the same success at Old Trafford, with the squad still struggling to fit to his style nearly a year on from his appointment in November 2024.

Whilst United sources claim it would be incorrect to say he’s lost the dressing room at this time, it’s believed that some key players are growing unhappy with the playstyle.

Club captain Bruno Fernandes has been reported as being unhappy in the more holding role he’s playing this year compared to the attacking position of last season, which saw him end the campaign with the highest amount of goals and assists in the club.

Whilst Amorim’s job doesn’t appear to be in any form of risk, he could still be handed a lifeline to return to Portugal, as his boyhood club Benfica are looking to make him their next manager.

However, at this time it’s unknown how Ruben Amorim feels about this potential opportunity, with his focus still on rebuilding The Red Devils.
