Deadline day is always a dramatic occasion to bring to an end the summer transfer window, and with it cementing the club’s squads for the coming season.

This year, Manchester United only made one deadline day signing, recruiting Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens in a move which saw the former first-choice keeper, Andre Onana, even further shifted to the sidelines.

Already the Cameroon international was demoted from the Premier League, with Altay Bayindir taking to the goal for each of United’s league fixtures, with Ruben Amorim only involving Onana in their Carabao Cup game against Grimsby Town, which embarrassingly ended in defeat.

That disastrous loss started the end for Onana, with Lammens being signed five days later only to then lead to Onana being loaned out for the season to Turkish side Trabzonspor.

As such, Amorim is left with his former back-up keeper and Lammens, who has no Premier League experience, battling it out for the first-choice keeper role, with the 23-year-old’s inspirations now being revealed.

The Times has reported that Senne Lammens has been studying three Champions League-winning goalkeepers to improve his all-around skill and conditioning, readying himself to perform at the top level.

The report explains that Lammens has been studying fellow countrymen  Thibaut Courtois and Simon Mignolet for Courtois’ reflexes and Mignolet’s diet and gym dedication, whilst his third is Barcelona keeper Marc-André ter Stegen for his sheer shot-stopping ability.

Having won the Champions League with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool, the trio have all performed and won at the top level in Europe. making them fine examples to learn from.

However, Lammens is now set to wear the gloves at Old Trafford, where greats like Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar have graced the pitch, with Amorim hoping he can be the man to fill the void left by David de Gea’s departure.
