Christian Eriksen is now taking the next step in his footballing career as the veteran midfielder left Manchester United at the start of the summer.

Eriksen joined United from Brentford back in 2022, with the 33-year-old arriving as a free agent.

However, after three years, 107 games, eight goals and 19 assists, Eriksen’s contract came to an end, with Ruben Amorim not seeing the Denmark international as part of his long-term plans.

Since then, Eriksen has been taking his time to decide on his next club, staying fit by training with Swedish side Malmo despite them having no interest in signing the midfielder.

Now, Bundesliga side Wolfsburg have signed Eriksen as a free agent, hoping that his wealth of experience can benefit the club.

However, BILD have reported that the Denmark midfielder has agreed to take a major pay cut in joining the German giants compared to his salary at Old Trafford.

Christian Eriksen is reported to be earning £3 million gross per year with Wolfsburg, which in comparison to his £8.65 million United wage, represents a drop of 65%.

As such, he’s not set to be one of the club’s top earners, with captain Maximilian Arnold being the highest-paid star, earning £4.3 million gross per year.

Interestingly, places like the USA and Saudi Arabia were prepared to pay mega-money for the midfielder’s services; however, the move shows Eriksen is still more concerned over the quality of football he’s playing, wanting to compete in the top leagues.
