This summer has seen Manchester United carry out a major overhaul of their squad, with loan spells and permanent transfers arranged for several big-name stars.
Real Betis have signed Antony and Alejandro Garnacho has moved to Chelsea, while Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana have all gone out on loan for the rest of the season.
Onana’s departure has seemingly marked the end of United’s summer transfers, despite still looking to offload left-back Tyrell Malacia, with the Dutch defender struggling to attract suitors.
Thankfully though, his loan move to Trabzonspor has seemingly helped ease concerns at Old Trafford.
Manchester Evening News have reported that some of the United locker room felt there would have been a real “problem” were he to have remained at Old Trafford.
This comes on the back of United signing Royal Antwerp keeper Senne Lammens on deadline day, becoming the fourth member of The Red Devils’ goalkeeper department, including Onana, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.
Whilst the problem isn’t specifically considered to be Onana, it was more concern over the “nonsense” of having four senior goalkeepers, which has now been eased by Onana’s departure.
However, it wasn’t expected that the Cameroon international would be leaving at the start of the summer, with Ruben Amorim seemingly set to back the keeper.
Onana was so sure he’d be the first-choice keeper for the coming season that he rejected a move to AS Monaco during the summer.
Ultimately though, his disastrous performance against Grimsby Town proved too much for Amorim to stand by, seeing Lammens signed only a matter of days later, spelling the end of Onana’s Manchester United involvement, at least for this season.
