Over the years, one of the most exciting things about following Manchester United is keeping tabs on the emerging youth talent.
The remarkable stat of the United side always registering a player from their youth stretches all the way back to 1937.
It’s a staple of the club and defines what the club is, which is probably why there has been so much hysteria around the lack of minutes for Kobbie Mainoo.
A Welsh stalwart in Gabriele Biancheri made his debut for the Wales Under 21s against Denmark. It speaks volumes of his ability as a player that the 18 year old is already getting picked for the Under 21s.
Biancheri moved to Manchester United in February 2023 and has been part of the youth setup ever since.
According to the Daily Mail, Biancheri qualifies playing for both Canada and Wales who are both vying for the player to represent them on the international stage.
Earlier this year, Biancheri was invited to the Canada National team in an attempt to woo him, an experience he reportedly enjoyed.
Biancheri was subbed on with Wales losing 3-2 as Denmark then accelerated to clinch the game 6-2. Notably, Chido Obi was an unused substitute for the Danes.
Biancheri will turn 19 next week as he reaches a crucial juncture of his career in terms of kicking on. The forward was said to be open to leaving United on loan this summer but it was eventually decided it was best for him to stay put.
Though the news is encouraging for Biancheri, he finds himself behind Chido Obi for the Under 21’s.
He has many admirers and even Wales manager Craig Bellamy has mentioned his ability. Bellamy is cautiously optimistic on Biancheri’s abilities but also mentioned that Biancheri is far away from a senior call-up:
‘I see him a long way from being in our first team. A long, long way. But what I like about him is that when you write him off, he finds a way.’
Biancheri clearly has the ability, but if he wants to kick on in his career the next year or so is crucial.
