Today marks the 31st Birthday of Manchester United’s captain Bruno Fernandes, and he’s not showing any signs of letting up, keen to keep pushing forward with The Red Devils.
Fernandes has already rejected mega-money moves to Saudi Arabia, with Al-Hilal attempting to snap him up before the Club World Cup in a deal which would have seen United earn £100 million and Fernandes sign a contract for £200 million.
The midfielder has explained he wants to see out the rest of the season at least, not wanting to even think of leaving Old Trafford until after the 2026 World Cup, with his focus entirely on United and Portugal.
Last season, Fernandes truly led by example as the club captain, as not only United’s top goalscorer for the season, but also registering the club’s highest number of assists.
Now, three games into the new season, the 31-year-old has got his name on the scoresheet once again, scoring United’s winner in their 3-2 victory over newly promoted Burnley by converting a penalty.
Now, in honour of the captain’s birthday, we take a look at the song affectionately sung about Bruno Fernandes by the Manchester United fans, “Bruno, Bruno, Bruno”.
Sung to the tune of “The Entertainer”, United fans sing:
“Bruno, Bruno, Bruno,
“He’s from Sporting like Cristiano,
“He goes left, He goes right,
“He makes the defences look shi*e,
“He’s our Portuguese magnifico….”
Singing along to the tune The Entertainer is certainly fitting for Bruno Fernandes who has been a vital part of The Red Devils squad since arriving from Sporting CP in 2020, and his stats show off why the fans sing so passionately.
Since arriving at Old Trafford, Fernandes has scored 99 goals for United and grabbed 86 assists in 294 games, helping the club add another FA Cup and Carabao Cup to their trophy cabinet.
With is routine goal contributions, Fernandes is now the fourth highest midfielder in United’s history for goals scored, with only Sir Bobby Charlton (245), Ryan Giggs (168) and Paul Scholes (155) sitting above him, as he surpassed Bryan Robson (97) at the end of last season.
He also sits in third for most assists from a midfielder, with Ryan Giggs at the top of the list (268) and David Beckham (121) between the two.
Now, with the majority of the season still to play out, Fernandes will surely be a major force in Ruben Amorim’s rebuild project, looking to bounce back this year.
